Near York, Nebraska: June 22, 2021

It was a one-day storm chase in Nebraska, a trip that did not disappoint. A slow-moving supercell thunderstorm drifted across the countryside. Originating north of York, this supercell thunderstorm moved in a southward direction, eventually crossing over I-80. With open views in all directions, this is a great area to chase storms.

Storm structure continued to become more prominent toward sunset, likely in response to a strengthening low-level jet. As daylight started to wane, colors were enhanced as the sun began to set. After sunset, the storm gradually weakened as it approached the Kansas border.
