Oklahoma: May 6, 2024

A high risk of severe thunderstorms was issued on May 6th for parts of Oklahoma, including the OKC metro area. The daytime portion of the event was tame compared to some expectations, but I did chase one storm across north-central Oklahoma.

This supercell was well-organized, but high precipitation (HP). To make matters worse, due to there being a high risk in Oklahoma, there were hundreds, if not a few thousand storm chasers out. After taking a few pictures of this storm, I attempted to follow it east, but the chaser convergence (traffic) was way too much.

I headed back toward Oklahoma City and supercells soon impacted the area. There were a few tornadoes, but most of them occurred after dark. It’s been a busy storm season thus far, but thankfully this event was not nearly as destructive as it could have been.
